C.L. McCrea and Doris McCrea were the founding owners. McCrea became a family-owned wholesale distributer of the Lux-aire brand of residential HVAC equipment. McCrea was located in Washington D.C.
McCrea becomes incorporated in Washington D.C. This is significant as becoming incorporated allowed for McCrea to later get outside investors to help grow the business.
McCrea moves from D.C. to Beech Road in Temple Hills, MD. Beech Road is still the corporate headquarters for McCrea.
A group of investors buys out the McCrea’s family’s interest in McCrea. One of those investors is George Lanhardt who goes on to become the President and majority shareholder.
McCrea begins performing installations in residential homes and creates the first McCrea Service department.
McCrea implements the first computer system to help manage the service department. McCrea was able to provide quicker service to residents and wholesalers. Wayne Lanhardt becomes the President of McCrea.
After many years of sending personnel into Virginia, McCrea purchases a 20,000 square foot building and opens a full office in Warrenton, VA.
Operations are expanded to include West Virginia and Pennsylvania and McCrea opens an operation in Greencastle PA. The facility is a 50,000 square foot facility that allows McCrea to expand its sheet metal production operation.
October 10th McCrea celebrates its 75th anniversary and is featured in a national HVAC publication. The title of the article “Contractor does it right for 75 years."
